People who go to bed at 10 pm and get 7 to 8 hours of sleep have a lower risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This is according to a survey in China. AD is a chronic disorder in which memory is lost and other mental activities are disrupted. Amyloid beta-protein plays a major role in the development of Alzheimer's disease.
The tendency of proteins to form plaques in the alliance, in the absence of a balance of amyloid-beta production and activation, they form plaques in the brain and attach themselves to neurons. As a result, the neurons become inactive or the brain cannot receive any signals from other cells, and the neurons die.
Researchers at Fudan University and Qingdao University conducted a study on 638 people aged 40 to 6 years. The researchers also measured amyloid-beta levels in cerebrospinal fluids to study participants and asked them about their sleep habits.
The researchers, who published the report in the journal Alzheimer's and Dementia, found that there was a correlation between Alzheimer's U-shape (decreased growth rate) and nighttime sleep habits and that there was a difference in amyloid beta in cerebrospinal fluid.
It found that those who slept less than four hours or more than 10 hours a night had higher amyloid levels. On the other hand, those who go to bed at 10 pm and sleep six to seven hours have the lowest level of amyloid-beta. Among the women who took part in the study, those who slept during the day also had higher levels of amyloid-beta.
The study found a link between sleep and Alzheimer's, the report said.
